Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: I want a Christmas Tree that won’t drop needles everywhere. What should I buy?
A: Nordmann Fir Christmas Trees are grown to be low-to-no-needle drop. Now for the scientific part: Nordmann Fir needles are connected to the branch in a different way to other conifers, meaning that as the tree dries out, the needles are still held in place.
Q: Is it better for the environment to have a real tree or an artificial tree?
A: Research carried out by the Carbon Trust has shown “ A two metre artificial tree has a carbon footprint of around 40kg, more than 10 times that of a real tree that’s burned after Christmas”. This is before you consider the recycling aspect for green compost run by the local council. A locally grown Christmas Tree from Ardo Christmas Trees is the environmentally friendly way to go.
Q: What can I do with my Ardo Christmas Tree after the season is finished?
A: You can recycle your tree at the local council. Or you can leave it outside to season and cut into logs for your firepit in the summer. Or you can even put the whole tree, minus the decorations, out into your garden to provide a home for the birds and bugs over the winter.
Q: I want a living tree but I don’t have anywhere to plant it out afterwards. What can I do with it once the Christmas season has finished?
A: Don’t worry, here at Ardo Christmas Trees we have the solution. Starting in 2021, we offer a “bring back” service for the pot-grown/ living trees. This is free of charge; and we will then plant them back out in the plantation for shelter-breaks for the wildlife. Check back after 25th December for more details of this service.
Q: I only have a small area for my tree. Can I still have a real Christmas Tree?
A: Ardo Christmas Trees has a range of trees in all shapes and sizes. We are confident that we will have the perfect tree for everyone’s requirements. All our trees are un-netted so you can see each tree in all its glory. If space is at a premium, why not consider one of our living trees. These will be typically less than 5ft in height and because they are grown in their pot, they tend to be narrower trees as well. After the festive season, remember you can also use our Bring Back service where we will replant them on the plantation boundaries so that nothing goes to waste.
Q: We want to put on a garden display with a real Christmas Tree. How large a tree can we buy from Ardo Christmas Trees?
A: We stock a wide range of trees from 5ft to 12ft. We can also provide from 12ft – 20ft (6-7m) by pre-order. All of the trees we sell at Ardo Christmas Trees are grown in Aberdeenshire.
Q: I like to get a new tree bauble every year. Will you have decorations for sale?
A: Our Christmas Chalet and Crafters Cabins will both be stocked with locally crafted and hand made decorations and gifts. This has proven so popular that we are installing a third pop up shop to hold all the range that we will be stocking. Feel free to pop in and have a browse. We’re sure you’ll find something you’ll love.
Q: We’re planning to come with the children to choose our Christmas Tree. What else is there for them to do?
A: For children (of all ages), there is a Christmas tree mini maze. This was such a success at our Open Day in the summer, that we have kept this for the Christmas season as well. Ardo Christmas Trees is located on a field in the farm with plenty of space to let off energy; or why not grab your wellies, get a hot drink, put on your scarf and gloves and have a walk around the sapling plantation on the farm.
Q: What else will there be to do at Ardo Christmas Trees?
A: As well as a fabulous range of locally grown low needle drop Nordmann Fir Christmas Trees, Ardo Christmas Trees are delighted to announce that they are hosting a record number of local businesses and crafters in their pop-up shops. From home décor to jewellery; local artists and edible gifts; there’s even a section to make your Christmas Eve extra special – just add PJ’s!
At Ardo Christmas Trees, we’re all about making special memories at a special time of year.
Despite the increased cost of living and inflation, we have decided to hold the costs of our Christmas Trees to the same as 2023. Its our way of making sure that everyone is "making memories with Ardo Christmas Trees"
