What's new this month at Team Ardo
Have you wondered what goes on here at Ardo Christmas trees during the year?
Sign up to our monthly newsletter, and find out more about what happens here during the other 11 months of the year, in order to produce your perfect tree; as well as all the other activities we carry out on the farm.
These last few weeks we have been carrying various preparation work. The Cancella Mulcher has been clearing the cut tree stumps and damaged or spent trees from the old plantations so that the planting team can get the new saplings established for the Christmas Tree Growing company.
On the farming side, the other tractors and ploughs have been busy preparing the fields for the sowing of spring crops. Here that is barley and oats. The wheat and oil seed rape seeds were sown in the autumn and will be the first to harvest in the summer. Unfortunately the geese, crows and pigeons also like the young shoots so we have spent a fair amount of time with various bird scaring techniques - some are more effective than others!
Aside from that, our accommodation hostel (#ardohostel) has had a deep spring clean and a spruce up, ready for the season ahead.
In addition to this, we have also had a team working on an estate near Keith, creating new estate roads for their fishing guests This has involved use of various machinery - the Cancella Mulcher is great for this work as well, tracked Caterpillar Digger, Stone Crusher, Murray Machinery Road Grader, Heavy roller and the Fendt tractors. It's a lovely area to work in, and usually better weather there than here!
Other news is that we are again taking part in LEAF Open Farm Sunday. In 2022, this takes place on 12th June; so plans are afoot to make it a great day out for everyone.

Bring Back Service
Ardo Christmas Trees are offering a BRING BACK SERVICE. This is a new and free service that we are offering at Ardo Christmas Trees. We hope that it takes off and helps prevent unnecessary wastage of the living trees. Most importantly, we need you to play your part in this, by looking after your living tree. Assuming that you have managed to do this, you have the option of replanting it either in your garden, or in a larger planter outside to grow naturally. We are now offering a third option. If you do not have the space or inclination to do either of the above, then we are offering a BRING BACK SERVICE. Living trees that are returned to Ardo Christmas Trees, will be replanted as wind breaks in the plantation here on the farm.
